Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an integral part of the 1000 Islands family. We rely on many volunteers to help maintain our building, gardens, grounds and trails. We also utilize volunteers for the educational opportunities we offer. Special events bring in many visitors and having volunteers to help with these special days is critical. Are you interested in becoming a Committee member to help guide 1000 Islands? Whatever your skill or interest may be, we welcome you to volunteer with us. You will make a difference!

Annual Art Fair

Each year, the Friends group host an Art Fair where over 50 nature-inspired artist and crafters gather to sell their one-of-a-kind creations. A raffle, food tent, and bake sale are also part of this event. To be considered as a vendor, please email thousandisland@kaukauna.gov

2024 Art Fair
The 40th Annual Nature Images Arts and Craft Fair was held on Sunday, May 19, 2024, on the grounds of 1000 Islands Environmental Center along the Fox River. We had another beautiful spring day for the 2023 Art Fair with 50 original art and craft vendors, a food stand, bake sale. Everyone enjoyed the very entertaining band Forté and the Pianissimos!

Maple Syrup

Making maple syrup each spring has been a long tradition at 1000 Islands. Volunteers tap maple trees, in the Conservancy Zone and in the City of Kaukauna, collect the sap, and boil it down in our Sugar Shack to make maple syrup. Canning the maple syrup in pint and quart jars completes the process. Maple syrup is available to purchase in the Nature Center building’s Gift Shop. To volunteer to make maple syrup each spring, please email thousandisland@kaukauna.gov

2023 Maple Syrup Available
We have an ample supply of maple syrup in pint ($7.50) and quart ($15.00) jars available for purchase. Please stop at the Gift Shop within the Nature Center building to get some while supplies last.

We re-use the Mason/Ball jars for canning the maple syrup. To keep costs reasonable, please consider donating your Mason/Ball jar back to 1000 Islands or if you have extra jars that you are not using, we will take them!
